The 2026 World Cup is upon us, and while Tottenham Hotspur fans will presumably be rooting for the England national team and fullback Djed Spence, surprisingly chosen as the Lilywhites only representative in Thoms Tuchel's official Three Lions squad, there are star players from Spurs scattered across the world's rosters this summer.

Micky van de Ven and the Dutch national team will be a delight to watch, and although Dejan Kulusevski is, like Xavi Simons, still out with a serious injury, Lucas Bergvall will be a key reason for Spurs to watch what Sweden are doing this year.

Now, Tottenham fans have another reason to watch the World Cup more closely with a special interest on Argentina's games. Even though captain and star center back Cristian Romero is almost certainly going to leave this summer, his potential replacement, compatriot Marcos Senesi, is now joining him on the Argentina squad.

Marcos Senesi is going to the World Cup

Just days after Tottenham finally officially confirmed his obvious free transfer from Bournemouth to Spurs, Argentina have officailly called Senesi up to the first team on the day of the start of the World Cup after a devastating injury to Ligue 1 star Leo Balerdi.

The move is well deserved and met with positivity from the Argentina fans, and there are some who feel that Marcos Senesi is just as good, if not better, than Balerdi, especially since his world class ability to create chances and move the ball as a passer, which is why Roberto De Zerbi approved his signing from Johan Lange and Vinai Venkatesham, meshes well with the defending World Cup champions.

Tottenham Hotspur supporters were already going to be watching Argentina closely, but now Senesi's addition to the squad gives them yet another reason to watch both their games and more World Cup games with greater interest.

Because there's nothing quite like watching your own team's players balling out on the grand stage. Senesi probably won't get a lot of game time since he is a last second call up, but you never know. Senesi is a good, experienced player, and center backs are important to depth. Legitimately, Senesi has the quality to start for the Argentina national team, based on the fact that he was one of the best center backs in the Premier League last season for a Bournemouth side that came out of nowhere to qualify for European football. Maybe Senesi can be a sleeper this summer.
