Tottenham are desperate to appoint Roberto De Zerbi as their new manager, reportedly offering the combustible Italian a five-year contract that'd make him one of the Premier League's highest-paid coaches.
The desperation of our current situation has forced us to this. Igor Tudor's firefighting proved mightily ineffective, and instead of opting for the elusive "Tottenham man" to strengthen ties between players and supporters, those in charge have decided to bring forward their next long-term appointment.
De Zerbi had been insistent that he wouldn't take another job until the summer, but Spurs' hefty financial package has seemingly convinced him. Now, reports are emerging as to who the former Marseille coach wants to bring with him to north London.
And no, we're not talking transfers just yet.
De Zerbi wants Alessandro Nesta and Sandro on Tottenham backroom staff

Suggesting De Zerbi's potential appointment is a decisive one would be an understatement. Of course, there are the moral questions, but the Italian also doesn't have the personnel at Spurs to cope with complex tactical instructions that rely heavily on high-risk build-up play.
Alienating more factions of the fanbase at this critical juncture is another big gamble from this inept board, with unity key to helping us out of this mess.
What could help De Zerbi, though, is having the right people around him.
According to Nicolò Schira, who believes the agreement between Spurs and their new manager is done, De Zerbi is working to have Alessandro Nesta and/or Sandro on his backroom staff.
"De Zerbi 100%!" 💪

"He's like a teacher!" 👏
"He understands the game so well!" 😍

Nesta was one of the greatest defenders of his generation and has ventured into management with limited success. He's currently in charge of Monza, having been re-appointed by the Italian club last February, just two months after his initial departure. Whether he'd leave that position in favour of an assistant role at Spurs remains to be seen.
Cult hero Sandro seems a more plausible option, and there's no overlooking just how big a coup that could be for De Zerbi. An infectious personality who still adores the club he represented proudly for four years, Sandro worked with the Italian at Benevento and has previously waxed lyrical about the 46-year-old.
The former midfielder described De Zerbi as the "best coach I have ever worked for".
While Sandro has minimal coaching experience at the highest level, his return to N17 would doubtless be welcomed by swathes of supporters. He was never the most outstanding of players, but the Brazilian blossomed into a much-loved figure during his time at the club.
Perhaps he'd go a long way to alleviating the state of angst that currently exists between fans and the potential new manager.
