Tottenham Hotspur were agonizingly close to making one of the best and most underrated blockbuster signings of the summer 2025 transfer window when they had Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White hook, line, and sinker after snagging him on a hidden 60 million pound release clause. However, an incensed Evangelos Marinakis, the Forest owner, threw a tantrum and got the deal blocked, instead signing MGW to a contract extension that took the transfer off the table for Daniel Levy, who did not exactly fight hard with the Premier League to push a perfectly valid signing through.
The Lilywhites had already secured the addition of Xavi Simons for their midfield, and while Simons had a strong first season at Tottenham despite initial lumps and a premature end due to an ACL tear, Spurs clearly still lacked enough star power in the middle of the park.
Most importantly, they lacked goals as a team, and Gibbs-White brought even more star power and goals than expected for Nottingham Forest in the 2025/26 Premier League season, bagging a whopping 15 goals in his best season to date, only making Spurs more upset they did not sign him as they somehow fell behind Forest in the Premier League table - including a direct 3-0 loss to them in the relegation fight.
Morgan Gibbs-White is a dream target
But Tottenham Hotspur, to the delight of their fans, have clear designs on getting back to trying to sign Morgan Gibbs-White away from Evangelos Marinakis. According to Spurs insider @szyexcl, Tottenham have "genuine interest" in the Forest attacking midfielder this year and actually like him even more this summer than they did last year because of how great of a 2025/26 season he had. And then another Tottenham insider, Paul O Keefe, reported that he thinks there is a chance Spurs go back in for the 26 year old star this summer.
Tottenham know that they need to make a big splash this summer transfer window, and Spurs fans want to see the club get serious about pulling themselves out of this hole they dug themselves in. Spurs did not finish 17th in the Premier League and in the thick of a relegation fight by accident, because they were literally 17th in the league the season before and only safe because the three relegated teams at that time were so futile.
The excuses about focusing on the Europa League were hollow nonsense driven by the charismatic Ange Postecoglou, and now Spurs see themselves for what they are. So the fans will be pleased if targets like Gibbs-White are the order of the summer.
