Tottenham fans now have a valid reason to be annoyed with Lucas Bergvall

Tottneham Hotspur now have to navigate not one but two disgruntled young stars, as Swedish national team midfielder Lucas Bergvall has, in the middle of the World Cup, handed a transfer request to Spurs out of nowhere, joining Luka Vuskovic in being the second young gem to want out.

Vuskovic's timing came after Spurs signed Roberto De Zerbi's favorite center back Jan Paul van Hecke, and it seems as though the Croatian international believes his 2025/26 season at Hamburg merits immediately starting at Tottenham - or signing with a club that will start him so he can then use them as a stepping stone to his Barcelona dream (or something like that).

The motivations for Bergvall do not sound too different either, and neither does the timing of his request. Bergvall's desire to leave all of a sudden curiously comes as Tottenham are making real headway on signing two more notable names in the Premier League for De Zerbi in Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali as midfield signings.

Lucas Bergvall is giving up too easily

According to Michael Bridges of Sky Sports in an appearance on the Last Word on Spurs show, Lucas Bergvall does not want to leave Tottenham Hotspur because he is unhappy with the club or regrets signing with them over Barcelona. His motivations are about wanting to play first team football and about seeing all the big players Tottenham are trying to sign like Tonali, Fernandes, and maybe even Adam Wharton and then thinking that his chances of playing time are very tenuous.

Tottenham Hotspur supporters will read all this and think a little bit less about Lucas Bergvall deep down. Because while Bergvall was screwed over by Thomas Frank and should have played more and more in his preferred position, there is a new coach at Tottenham. It would make sense for Bergvall to at least give a full preseason and a fresh new season with Roberto De Zerbi a shot.

It seems like a lot of young players in this generation get a big head from all the rumors hyping them up, their agents have no patience on waiting for a big commission from their next huge money transfer, and then they rile things up whenever there is a chance they can get in their client's ear about playing time.

Bergvall is still 20. If he were at Tottenham for a few years and never got chances, it would make sense to want out. But Spurs have played him, with Frank being so terrible an exception, not necessarily the rule; I mean, the guy is probably the worst manager in the history of the Spurs.
