Tottenham Hotspur have been sent into a tailspin. As if their totally listless 1-0 loss to rivals Chelsea a few weeks ago wasn't bad enough, Tottenham turned in an all time downer of a performance in a 4-1 loss to North London Derby rivals Arsenal on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium.
In Thomas Frank's biggest test through the first few month of his Tottenham career, the former Brentford manager failed so spectacularly that his club's supporters are already beginning to question his competency and why the club even signed him on board in the first place as manager.
Frank has a lot to do to win back some of the good will from his supporters after such a cowardly loss, but the folks in charge of the club higher up the pecking order also need to do a lot more in the January transfer window to plug up a squad that is still full of holes.
Tottenham are after forwards
According to a report from the Daily Telegraph's Matt Law, Tottenham Hotspur wil make their priority positions to target this January transfer window the left wing and striker positions. And futhermore, their overall goal in the market is to target players who can immediately boost the value of the squad and make a high impact. Per Law, Spurs do not want to sign rotational players or depth pieces; they want guys who can come right in and shine.
Tottenham have blown a lot of smoke about their transfer strategy since firing Daniel Levy upon the close of the summer 2025 transfer window. They've hinted at big investment and real star signings to compete with the top, top players the other Big Six teams in the Premier League are signing - the kinds of players that Spurs never really go after.
When it comes to telling the fans about signing top players and not nickeling an diming the rotational players, it's not a new thing Spurs fans have heard. But fans do agree that the club needs actual star players in the midfield and attack, because the pieces they have at their disposal don't measure up right here and right now to footballers like Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, and Eberechi Eze, just to pick out Arsenal players. Now, Thomas Frank still has to coach better and actually play his best players, but some new stars, especially in the attack, would go a long way for Spurs.
