Tottenham fans hope their first signing won't cost them Micky van de Ven

Tottenham Hotspur center back Micky van de Ven had a very rough patch of games before Roberto De Zerbi arrived, but with the appointment of the former Brighton manager, so, too, did the arrival of hope bear for Spurs. Van de Ven's performances considerably improved to a level similar to where he was at in the Europa League knockout stages last season - and above what he was producing in the Premier League both last season and at the beginning of this season.

With another solid individual performance without Cristian Romero by his side as part of a tremendous collective defensive effort from Spurs, the Lilywhites officially completed their escape with a 1-0 win over Everton in front of the home fans to send rivals West Ham United packing to the EFL Championship.

But because they confirmed their survival in the Premier League, a new signing to the center of defense, Marcos Senesi, will soon be joining the group. Spurs insider @szyexcl confirmed that the rumors of Senesi potentially joining another Premier League club will soon cease, as the Argentinian international is "very excited" about joining the Lilywhites this summer transfer window and will soon be confirmed as an official signing at the club. The account also stated that Senesi's deal with Spurs has been sealed for months.

Spurs still have use for Micky van de Ven

All of this was, of course, provided Spurs stayed up. Although Marcos Senesi's Bournemouth are headed to the Europa League, the impending free agent's cycle at the club has ended, and he is about to, presumably, earn higher wages as a key player for one of the biggest club in England - a club desperately hoping to be back in the European places themselves by this time next year.

Senesi had a great season for Bournemouth and is an active defender who is sort of a Cristian Romero lite, but Spurs supporters are hoping that Senesi's arrival does not mean the departure of a younger and more beloved center back who was crucial in the relegation survival bid without Romero, Micky van de Ven.

Van de Ven was accused of not caring enough and of making poor decisions with his head in the clouds, but with Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor gone and Roberto De Zerbi getting Spurs back on track, the real Van de Ven has come back out to play. And it would be a shame if an older, less impressive Senesi meant his departure, rather than Senesi just being veteran cover to replace Romero's spot in the squad (or Radu Dragusin's, for that matter).
