Former Tottenham Hotspur Chairman Daniel Levy will always be seen the architect of Spurs current malaise, and if Spurs did not part ways with him last year, perhaps they would have been relegated because they never would have hired Roberto De Zerbi. And they certainly would not have the same hope for the future with big signings like Mateus Fernandes and Savio who can be Premier League superstars for the next decade to come - and are already off to a bright start despite Spurs remaining winless in the 2026/27 season.
Spurs current issues with scoring and winning matches have nothing to do with losing out on Levy, that's for sure, and perhaps if De Zerbi were running transfers in 2025 and not Levy, Tottenham would not have been in their current situation anyway with a player like Morgan Gibbs-White capable of adding goals and assists in the attacking midfield.
Regardless, Tottenham fans have no love lost for Daniel Levy, least of all for the decision that started the snowball of Tottenham going from Champions League FInalists in 2019 to nearly getting relegated in 2026: gutting Mauricio Pochettino, leaving him with a stale and broken squad, and firing him unceremoniously.
Daniel Levy was more focused on money than winning
As miserly as Levy was with transfers and as much as his goal was more on capital gains for Tottenham Hotspur than on actually winning games on the pitch, he was making quite a bit of money on his own from the club.
Tom Barclay of The Sun has revealed that even on his way out of Tottenham, the former Chairman of Spurs earned a whopping 27 million pound payday from the club to take his total career compensation from the Lilywhites up to 88 million pounds.
It's not surprising that Levy made a lot of money as the Head Honcho of Spurs when the club ownership had him to thank for all the money they saved for him, but to see him rewarded so richly, especially on the way out, for not achieving much and for building a team that went 17th in back to back Premier League season is just incredibly nauseating.
Tottenham fans already had every reason in the world to despise Levy, but hearing about the massive payday he collected on the way out the door is enough to make anyone's blood boil. Levy is a symbol of everything wrong with Tottenham now, and Spurs fans are never going to forget that legacy.
