Tottenham Hotspur star winger Dejan Kuluseveski has been sorely missed over what is now nearly a year of actoin missed with a knee injury of unspecified identity and potentially grave severity. With so few updates emanating from Tottenham and Igor Tudor - let alone Thomas Frank, who never said much of anything of consequence anyway - Spurs supporters have been left to fear the worst for their beloved Swedish star.
Even though Tudor gave positive injury updates on Mohammed Kudus (back after the March international break), James Maddison (will likely play before the season ends), and Rodrigo Bentancur (making good progress) of the lingering long term absences, he did not have any real news to share about the perpetually rehabbing Kulusevski.
However, Kulu's Swedish national team manager Graham Potter did give an update, albeit a brief one, to start the March international break. He said, via Football.London's Alasdair Gold, "Dejan is making progress but not as quickly as we would have liked."
Dejan Kulusevski is making slow progress
The quote was specifically in reference to the fact that Dejan Kulusevski did not make the Swedish national team squad, though that was pretty much a given. On the one hand, it is troubling that Kulu continues to make slow progress. On the other hand, at least it is a positive that Potter is saying that Kulu is making any sort of positive progress at all.
Because any small silver lining is something Spurs supporters will take. Tottenham Hotspur are the most snake bitten team in all of sports at this point, and that probably made Spurs fans even more worried about Kulu suffering a worst case scenario, career threatening knee injury with so few updates. It looks like Kulu's not dealing with anything catastrophic that we know of yet, but rather that he is just making very slow, albeit forward, progress on the knee injury he suffered at the end of the 2024/25 season.
That said, Kulusevski remains without a time table for a return. He is currently out in Spain - and Gold notes that his knee specialist is based in Barcelona - and will be meeting up with his national teammates soon. He won't be playing or practicing, but at least Potter says he will be there, out and about and socializing in some capacity.
It must be awful being in Kulu's shoes right now, not knowing when you are going to come back or what you will be capable of when you do return. Spurs supporters can only think positive thoughts and keep Kulusevski in their hearts.
