Overall, Tottenham Hotspur fans can have very little that's negative to say about the start to the 2025/26 Premier League and Champions League seasons, as Thomas Frank has proven to be the upgrade Spurs envisioned in the manager's chair, even though supporters will always have a soft spot for Ange Postecoglou and the Europa League title he left with him.
But if there's one thing Spurs fans have been chirping a bit too much about, it's the young left wingers. Tottenham hurt themselves as a club and left themselves shorthanded on the left wing this summer by not signing anyone to replace Son Heung-min, whose departure to MLS left a huge void on that side of the pitch.
Mohammed Kudus has been doing extra work on that right-hand side, but the left side has not been filled yet. Thomas Frank has tried out Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert on that flank, and whlie the two flash potential, they have yet to lay claim to the starting job.
Naturally, this has led some fans to lash out at Tel and Odobert. Tel received a brunt of criticism after Spurs loss in the UEFA Supercup Final, while Odobert was the one to receive the majority of the negative reviews after a 2-2 draw with Brighton.
Tottenham need to keep believing in talent
While it is true that neither of the two have been the solution just yet, that doesn't mean they can't be in the future. It also doesn't mean that the two are terrible or should be written off, and you'll find the usual suspects on social media yammering about how the two are flops and not worth their transfer fees.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Odobert and Tel are top talents who were both very much worth Tottenham taking fliers on, and they have shown that they have the raw potential to be stars in the Premier League.
The thing is, they are so young, and some Spurs fans are falling into the trap of watching players like Lamine Yamal or even their very own Lucas Bergvall, then have an unfair perception of how every young player should perform.
If anyone is to blame, then it is the office. Tottenham should have went harder after Savinho, Ademola Lookman, or another left wing option, even if only as a stopgap for Son before either Odobert or Tel (or maybe even both) blow up in the future. So instead of going after Odobert or Tel, who are both very talented young footballers, it's important to take a more nuanced view and not be so negative just because two growing talents aren't already playing like the second coming of the Son of Spurs.
