The Richarlison saga soured the end of the summer 2026 transfer window for Tottenham Hotspur, and with most of the markets closed, save for Brazil and a couple of others, Spurs are now scrambling to find another solution for the Brazilian international.
His deal with Everton collapsed and Richy was made out to be the villain in Spurs not signing Iliman Ndiaye, but as the Senegalese international himself stated, he never really had any intention of choosing Tottenham over Manchester City. So Richarlison was not to blame for that deal falling through, nor can Spurs fans reasonably blame him for not wanting to take a lower salary to play for Everton.
Richarlison had accepted the following deal to go to Trabzonspor, but it was actually Spurs who rejected the transfer fee from the Turkish Super Lig club for being too low. And now they risk losing a sellable asset coming off an 11 goal Premier League season for free, as Richy can sign a pre contract deal this winter to leave as a free agent in the summer 2027 transfer market to any club.

But what is making Tottenham Hotspur fans wary is how the fallout proceeded. Because say what you want about Richarlison on the pitch in terms of his falling over and inconsistency, but he is a player who has always been fully COYS, even rejecting transfers to other clubs for bigger salaries in the past. And he never gave up on the team last season; Spurs would not have survived the Premier League relegation fight without him, that's for sure.
Now, Tottenham do need to move on from Richy at some point and should have been able to get a fee from him this summer, but that's no reason to ostracize Richarlison. There has been a war of words between Richarlison and Roberto De Zerbi in the media, with one side saying that Richy wanted to leave and the other side saying that he wantd to stay.
It's a messy situation, and while Tottenham fans are not about to begin to take sides and cause any disharmony in the squad, they are tucking away this little, unnecessary public quarrel between a beloved backup in Richarlison and a charismatic but unruly manager in De Zerbi.
Because if things start to fall apart later on in the year like they did at Brighton, Marseille, and other posts De Zerbi coached at, Tottenham fans may just look back on what De Zerbi did with Richarlison in casting him out as the first straw in the polarizing manager's reign.
