Tottenham did make a Deadline Day signing after all

I don't know what everyone's complaining about? Did you not see that Tottenham did in fact decide to bolster their depleted frontline on Deadline Day?

And guess what, they didn't panic buy a Jhon Duran or Moussa Diaby. Raheem Sterling wasn't even considered. That's progress!

So, who's come in then? Who's the mysterious saviour, handing Frank an extra option in attack for the second half of the season? Well, what if I told you it was an 18-year-old Scotsman with eight senior goals and he's actually been signed to play for the U21s?

No, I didn't think that'd appease you, but hey, at least we beat Arsenal to the kid's signature.

Hearts centre-forward James Wilson was the only incoming on a bitterly disappointing Deadline Day. Wilson has joined the club on an initial loan, and is unlikely to have any impact on the senior side before the summer.

Tottenham sign teenage Scottish striker in only Deadline Day move

The deal for the highly-regarded Wilson is another example of the club's newfound savviness in the youth transfer market. We've been excellent on that front in recent years, aiding the academy immensely, but come on, guys. Read the room a bit, eh?

Everything I know about Wilson has been learned in the past couple of hours. His name first entered my consciousness when I saw the Arsenal links earlier in the day, and intrigue only set in when it was reported that the teenager was N17-bound.

Wilson is slight in frame, standing at 5'7, and enjoyed his big breakthrough last season in Edinburgh. He scored five times in 20 games for the first team, but has seen his number of opportunities reduced in 2025–26. Lawrence Shankland and cult hero Cláudio Braga have done much of the damage for the surprise title hopefuls this season, with the pair combining for 26 goals in all competitions.

Thus, the door was open for Wilson to depart this month, and Spurs do have an option to buy the youngster outright this summer. The likes of Dane Scarlett, Will Lankshear and the exciting Mason Melia are already on the club's books, so Wilson's arrival has congested our group of talented young strikers with first-team potential.

While the deal could eventually prove fruitful, it's not the signing any supporter was desperately willing on during the final hours of the window. I commend the club for not panicking late, but ultimately, reinforcements should've been brought in long before Deadline Day.

There's a distinct lack of creativity among the recruitment team, and the hierarchy have failed to deliver on promises laid out before the window opened.
