Tottenham Hotspur have one of the best center back trios in world football. Cristian Romero is fresh off another big-tournament showing, winning Europa League Player of the Tournament as vice captain, while Micky van de Ven is arguably just as good despite receiving less hype.
And new third-choice center back Kevin Danso is, likewise, a player with a pedigree for being one of the best in a top five league while at Lens in Ligue 1. Danso proved his mettle in the knockout stages of the Europa League, and Tottenham may not have won the tournament without all three of their contributions to the cause.
The craziest thing is the most gifted center back in the entire Tottenham squad may be someone who isn't even the fourth or fifth-choice right now. Teenage sensation Luka Vuskovic closed the preseason as perhaps the most hyped young player in the squad, with Spurs fans fawning over his rare blend of athleticism, offensive capabilities, and defensive aptitude at his age.
All that is waiting is Tottenham's word
There's an understanding, though, that Vuksovic needs regular playing time next season and is still a little too raw to break into the top four center backs in the squad, assuming Radu Dragusin still stays. Clubs have been lining up to sign Vuksovic on loan, but the most likely landing spot has always been Hamburg, who finally earned their return to the Bundesliga this season.
According to reporting from Kicker, Luka Vuskovic has given Hamburg his OK and has agreed to move to the proud Bundesliga club, who are seeking a return to prominence in the top flight. All that is needed is for Tottenham to give the go-ahead to a deal and agree to loan terms with Hamburg over the move.
Given that Tottenham have been on a spree loaning out players and have been actively shopping for clubs to send Vuskovic to, an agreement is likely a formality at this point. Vusksovic has the makings of a world-class center back and could be a special player for Tottenham, and it's to a point where he's now more highly projected than winger Mikey Moore.
Hamburg is a great landing spot for him, too, and Daniel Levy and Thomas Frank should have no objections to them. They will be playing in a competitive league, and they have enough defensive deficiencies that Vuskovic should be a nailed-on starter for them next season, which will be invaluable for his development.
