Tottenham Hotspur left back Destiny Udogie is one of the most talented players on the team and is, on paper, one of the best players in his role in the entire Premier League. When he started games last season, as poor as Spurs were, you could see an immediate difference on how the team played and in their fortunes when he was out there on the pitch.
An above average defender, Udogie really sets himself apart from the rest of the Tottenham left back options when he is on the ball, as he is the best ball progressor and technician at the position. With Djed Spence generating interest from around the Premier League and even abroad from Serie A champions Inter Milan, there is real concern around Spurs that his huge World Cup performances for England could make him interested in challenging for a starting job with a current Champions League club.
Tottenham seem open to selling if they can get enough money out of the deal, because while Spence is a key backup to Pedro Porro, he is 100 percent never going to start at right back over the Spanish international - and Spurs have already seen consistently that he is not a better option than Udogie.
Destiny Udogie is the clear starter
Although there were questions about Udogie's future coming into the summer 2026 transfer window due to a 2025/26 season filled with injuries, to the point where Tottenham Hotspur frustratingly could not come to rely on the young Italian international, there is zero indication Spurs are even remotely considering a transfer. And there has been only minimal Serie A interest in the former Udinese star.
Roberto De Zerbi, if anything, is doubling down and views Udogie, Micky van de Ven, and Pedro Porro as pillars of the present and future. While Udogie did not get to show his quality this World Cup like Porro, Van de Ven, Spence, and newcomer Jan Paul van Hecke did because of how terrible Italy were as a nation in the qualifying stages, his stock remains high because of De Zerbi.
Tottenham are showing an interest in loaning Souza, and with Spence getting closer to Inter Milan, Tottenham will have just Udogie and Andy Robertson at left back. That is confirming the desire of De Zerbi and the club to believe in Udogie, stick with him, and hope he can stay healthy with Robbo as the emergency option for the Italian.
