Radu Drăgușin proved that he is not good enough to play for Tottenham in yesterday's North London Derby. Let's face it, no Tottenham player set the world alight, but Drăgușin committed one cardinal sin: He made Viktor Gyökeres look good.
The fact that Gyökeres, who is known for being a flat-track bully, bullied Drăgușin tells Igor Tudor all that he needs to know. If Tudor is to escape relegation with Tottenham, then Drăgușin is not the guy that he needs in defense.
Who knows what the North London Derby could have looked like with Cristian Romero manning the defense instead? Nobody knows, unfortunately, but you could hazard a pretty good guess that he'd do a finer job of marking Gyökeres than Drăgușin did.
Radu Drăgușin is already at a disadvantage playing under Igor Tudor
Igor Tudor's defensive system relies on strict man-marking. Unfortunately for Tottenham fans, this tactic only exposes Radu Drăgușin's weaknesses even more.
There were a few occasions in the derby that Drăgușin neglected his man-marking duties, whether on purpose or by accident. Either way you look at it, things look pretty grim for the defender between now and the end of the season.
Defense is of paramount importance to Igor Tudor. He won't be around as head coach for long, but he will want to leave knowing he has done his job. That said, he runs a tight ship as it is, and it's highly unlikely that Drăgușin will be given a chance to rectify the weekend's mistakes.
Tottenham is heading towards an obvious Radu Drăgușin conclusion
Then comes the question of the summer transfer window. Under Thomas Frank, everything was treated with a question mark, and this included the future of Radu Drăgușin. However, as the months have progressed this season, his future is pretty clear, and it's anywhere but Tottenham.
Assuming Tottenham stays up (we're still assuming that, right?), Drăgușin is not fit to play for a Premier League team that should be competing for European football. The obvious conclusion, as far as Tottenham is concerned, is that Radu Drăgușin will be sold in the summer transfer window.
Drăgușin was by no means a bad signing. At the time, he was signed to be a squad rotational player, and that's the role he's kept.
However, there is a difference between an adequate signing and a good signing. To call Drăgușin a good signing would be an overstatement. In this new era that fans desperately need, only good signings should be tolerated.
