Tottenham Hotspur now have five new signings in their ranks for manager Roberto De Zebri, who pushed extra hard for the expensive trio of Jan Paul van Hecke, Mateus Fernandes, and Sandro Tonali to maintain control of the pitch and help Spurs dominate the ball like a big club should.
Now, though, they need to add the spice. Spurs leading goal scorer last season was Richarlison, who was not good enough to be the main man at striker anyway and was actually on the transfer list for two straight summers but stuck around in lieu of better options.
This offseason, Spurs are hoping to find better options both at striker and left winger - the same two positions vacated by club legends Son Heung-min and Harry Kane who had carried the Tottenham Hotspur attack for years.
Rafael Leao could come with low risk
Eli Junior Kroupi, the 20 year old from Bournemouth coming off a 13 goal Premier League season usurping the more experienced Tottenham attackers, seems to be the No. 1 name on the radar, but, lately, Rafael Leao is emerging as a real big target for Spurs to plausibly sign.
According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan have already offered Tottenham the opportunity to sign the 27 year old Leao, who should be in the theoretical prime of his career but has seen his stock tank badly as Milan have fallen off since the MVP Leao last led the Rossoneri to the Scudetto in the 2021/22 Serie A season.
Milan could be willing to part ways with Leao for less than expected, as low as 60 million euros, which would actually make the superstar left winger even cheaper than the midfielders Spurs signed - and as expensive as Jan Paul van Hecke, who had one year left on his deal with Brighon at the time of his transfer to reunite with Roberto De Zerbi.
Better yet, Tottenham can take on this deal without much risk, doing a move similar to what they did with forwards Timo Werner, Mathsy Tel, and Randal Kolo Muani. Two of those three transfers did not work out at all, but Tottenham did not have to take on any risk - and none of them were former league MVPs like Leao.
If Tottenham can get Leao on a low risk loan with an option to buy for 60 million euros, Spurs could be in business. Johan Lange and Roberto De Zerbi can't ignore the opportunity Milan are offering them.
