Roberto De Zerbi has changed a lot about Tottenham Hotspur already - and they have been changes for the better. Spurs are signing actual top players on the transfer market instead of overspending for options that are cheaper than the elite players on the market but are actually worse deals overall because of the lack of quality.
The most recent example of that sort of a signing was Spurs overspending on both the transfer fee and wages for Conor Gallagher, who was so awful for Atletico Madrid that the Spanish giants were practically begging to sell him back to the Premier League for at least a year.
Although De Zerbi, for some reason, likes Gallagher and got the former England international to play decently well during the relegation battle, fans know that keeping too many mediocre players on high wages with no future value on the roster is a great way to stay mediocre and take slots away from better players, with No. 8 of the future Lucas Bergvall already bickering for a potential transfer out of N17 after the Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes added more (much needed) mouths to feed in midfield.
Conor Gallagher has no real future at Tottenham
Players ilke Tonali and Fernandes are worth starting in the Premier League and have future world class value. They can be bedrock players for a team that finishes in the top five of the league. Someone like Gallagher, though, was already deemed as not good enough by a club in that bracket, Chelsea, and now Tottenham Hotspur were the ones foolhardy enough to spend 40 million euros.
But Tottenham fans have another change they want to see, and they have been wanting to see it in conjunction with the more serious types of signings that Roberto De Zerbi finally appears to be making good on in 2026. Spurs fans want the club to move on from signings that are not good enough more quickly instead of spending money, spending a squad spot and losing a better and younger player, and wasting their time when they could have signed a replacement.
Conor Gallagher only just joined Tottenham, but everyone knows he has no future at N17. He isn't good enough, the leadership angle is totally overblown hogwash from the English media, and paying him and playing him will cost Spurs Lucas Bergvall, who will haunt them for years to come if he joins Aston Villa or Nottingham Forest (or any other Premier League club for that matter). It is quick, but it is better to be quick: Gallagher has to go.
