Tottenham Hotspur signed a couple of star players in the summer transfer window last year, but they are going to need a lot more help if they want to get out of the bottom four of the Premier League next season and get back to their usual standard of competing in the Champions League places.
Spurs should have signed a star forward in the winter transfer market when it was obvious that they were lacking an attacking spark, and the season ending injuries to key players like Mohammed Kudus and Wilson Odobert only exposed how thin their depth was.
Last summer, Tottenham had significant interest in Manchester City star winger Savinho, but the Citizens were not at all interested in selling the Brazilian international - and Daniel Levy and Co. were doing very little to convince them otherwise.
Tottenham are pushing for Manchester City star
Now, Spurs are back in for Savinho in 2026, and Brazilian outlet Ge Globo is reporting, via The Spurs Web, that Tottenham Hotspur are now engaging in formal talks with Manchester City to sign the former Girona man.
Before arriving in the Premier League, Savinho was a revelation in La Liga and even had his team competing for the league title briefly in the 2023/24 season against Real Madrid as a La Liga Player of the Season sleeper.
A dynamic player who can start on either wing, Savinho would bring versatilty to a Spurs side that needs a new starting left winger to compete with Mathys Tel and a strong No. 2 for Mohammed Kudus with Dejan Kulusevski's future in doubt after a horrific knee injury at the end of the 2024/25 season; he is still not back yet from that.
Savinho seems more likely to leave Manchester City than ever with the club transitioning formally to a new sporting director and with Pep Guardiola exiting, leaving his legacy to look alike Enzo Maresca to continue in the manager's dugout.
Since he barely started many games in the Premier League last season, Savinho is looking for a club that will make him a focal point, and while Spurs have no European football to offer Savinho next season, they do have a lot of other benefits for the Brazilian star, including a starting job that is basically his to lose. As talks betwen Man City and Spurs progress, it will be interesting to see what kind of transfer fee the Citizens are looking for.
