Confirmation of James Maddison's ruptured ACL must spark Tottenham into action, with less than a month of the summer transfer window remaining.
If you exclude Luka Vuskovic, who signed for the club two summers ago but only officially joined after turning 18, Spurs, off the back of a 17th-place Premier League finish, have added just two new faces to Thomas Frank's ranks.
One of those, Kota Takai, is expected to play no more than sporadic role for Frank's side in 2025/26, meaning Mohammed Kudus is the only fresh face likely to make an immediate impact.
I don't believe Frank's squad requires an overhaul, but a little bit of help wouldn't go amiss. We've lost our captain, as well as our creative talisman. Another standout performer from last season, Dejan Kulusevski, is out of action, too.
Tottenham pursuing potential superstar Nico Paz
.@Como_1907, rifiutata un'offerta da 40 milioni dal @SpursOfficial per Nico Paz: la valutazione del club italiano è di 70 milioni @SkySport

The most pressing need is a creative midfielder in the wake of Maddison's injury. With the Englishman and Kulusevski both sidelined, there's a distinct lack of problem-solvers in this Tottenham squad. Much of the creative responsibility will be thrust upon Kudus.
The club must move with some urgency, having coasted through the window after missing out of Morgan Gibvs-White.
There have only been tenuous links to the likes of Bilal El Khannouss and Jack Grealish, but Gianluca Di Marzio has dropped a bit of a bombshell regarding a failed bid for Como's Nico Paz.
The Italian journalist writes that Como have rejected a €40m bid from the Lilywhites, and are holding out for €70m. They have every right to demand such a fee for the Argentine, who was named Serie A's Young Player of the Year for 2024/25.
Paz starred for Cesc Fabregas' mightily exciting side, notching 14 goal contributions. He's absolutely superb; a potential superstar in the making. The Argentine No. 10 combines contemporary with vintage, proving himself to be an off-the-cuff magician in Italy last year. Paz certainly has the talent to emerge as the franchise player Spurs are suddenly craving following Son's departure.

While Real Madrid were willing to let him go, they are said to have a whopping 50% sell-on clause, and an option to buy Paz back for merely €9m next summer. The 20-year-old would thus be aware that he ciuld return to the Spanish capital next summer, having developed through the Castilla.
Others suggest that there has not yet been a bid from Spurs, but The Athletic believe there's interest. Como's apparent unwillingness to sell means this one will be tough to pull off, especially with Madrid capable of sticking their noses in at any given moment.
Nevertheless, the links are a step in the right direction.
