Tottenham are headed back to the Champions League next season after Ange Postecoglou recovered from a woeful Premier League campaign to guide Spurs to a rare Europa League title triumph over fellow league strugglers Manchester United.

After Tottenham sort out what they want to do with Big Ange in the manager's chair, their focus will be on bringing a mix of young talents and potentially more experiened players, preferably on inexpensive deals, to support both the overall sporting project long-term and the short-term goal of being competitive in the 2025/26 Champions League campaign.

Impending Bayern Munich free agent Leroy Sane has become a sudden topic on the transfer market, and it looks like Spurs are going to be more competitive for the German international than some would have expected.

Tottenham could sign one of the biggest free agents around

According to a report from Sport Bild's Tobias Altschaffl, Tottenham are the Premier League side with the most concrete interest in signing Sane this summer. A former Manchester City star, Sane's wife is said to be very interested in moving to London, and Sane has already been offered to Tottenham prior to the transfer window opening.

Per Altschaffl, Bayern want to get an answer from Sane before they travel to the Club World Cup on June 10. So things could move quickly in the directoin of Tottenham signing Sane, who, while a little bit on the decline, is still a top-class winger and attacking midfielder in world football at the age of 29. As long as his wages are reasonable, Sane could be an attractive signing for Spurs, though, with a steeper decline to come into his 30's, that will be something Spurs must be careful of.

Tottenham could use a left-footed right winger to supplement Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson, though Sane is no replacement for either. This is a signing that has real legs and a chance of happening, as Tottenham are probably only going to focus on free agents and other cheap players if they do sign veteran players for the Champions League to add to their focus on young talent.

With extensive Champions League experience over the years at three different clubs in Schalke, Manchester City, and Bayern Munich, a free agent Sane does fit the bill. Sane is reportedly interested in joining Tottenham, too, and if Spurs are indeed showing the most interest in the versatile Bayern winger, then he could be their to lose this summer if he really is ready to leave Bayern for a new challenge back in English football.
