Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario had such a disappointing 2025/26 Premier League season that out of all the myriad of Spurs players who hurt their stocks with a poor campaign, the Italian international sunk lower than all of them.
Yet inexplicably, the best team in Serie A, champions Inter Milan, were highly interested in signing Vicario from Tottenham this summer transfer window as a replacement for the declining Yann Sommer Now, that no longer appears to be the case, with Inter subtly cooling their interest in Vic, yet their biggest rivals, Juventus, picked up the slack with interest in the former Empoli star.
So with Juve interested, Tottenham fans were not too worried about the prospect of Vicario sticking around. Vicario's struggles were written off by some as the result of playing through a hernia, but since many of his issues were mental and with Spurs playing so much better after Antonin Kinsky stepped in and helped save the club from Premier League relegation, the truth about the extent of Vicario's struggles began to emerge.
Vicario likely isn't moving anywhere
Not only did Inter appear to recognize that, but, so, too, have Juventus. In addition to prioritizing Aston Villa star and World Cup hero Emiliano Martinez over Guglielmo Vicario, the Bianconeri appear to have another big name goalkeeper ahead of Vic on their wish list.
According to a report from top Italian transfer insider Gianluca Di Marzio, the Plan B for Juventus in goal to replace the highly disappointing Michele Di Gregrio is not Vicario. After Emiliano Martinez, Juve's next candidate would be Atletico Madrid star Jan Oblak, who has been one of the top three goalkeepers in La Liga over the past decade and is someone Juve have been linked to for a while.
It makes full sense for Juve to want Oblak over Vicario. Oblak has a better pedigree and more consistency, while he can make just as many top reflex saves as the former Serie A relegation battle hero.
Tottenham Hotspur, meanwhile, have to face the reality that they may not be able to sell Vicario at all. The clubs that could take him on and give him what he wants in terms of wages and prestige, like Inter Milan and Juventus, do not appear to be believers in his quality - and it is hard to see him stepping down to a club like Empoli again. Spurs are going to start Antonin Kinsky over him no matter what, but the dreams of James Trafford appear far away now.
