Tottenham Hotspur are coming off a tremendous opener to the 2025/26 Premier League season, tearing Burnley to bits 3-0 in a thoroughly professional performance that was above the standard of what you'd expect, even in a match against a newly promoted team likely to be sent right back down again at the end of the campaign.
Richarlison ran rampant and Mohammed Kudus showed more of his potential to be a special, special player for Spurs in a riot victory that was a great way for the North London giants to take out their frustrations from a blown UEFA Supercup Final against PSG.
Now, Tottenham turn their attention to their biggest transfer priorities, and it appears the most available top target for them to secure is local hero Eberechi Eze. According to The Sun's Jack Rosser and other journalists, Crystal Palace are willing to sell Eze to Tottenham once they are able to secure an attacking midfield replacement of their own.
That final hurdle to a transfer appears to be close to being cleared by the Eagles. Per reporting from Sky Sports Switzerland's Sacha Tavolieri, Crystal Palace are in "advanced negotiations" to sign Bilal El Khannouss as Eze's replacement. El Khannouss, interestingly enough, has been tossed around as a potential Plan B for Tottenham themselves if they were to miss out on Eze.
Tottenham are close to a 60 million pound agreement
Spurs have submitted a 60 million pound bid over the weekend, and, better yet, Tavolieri is also reporting that Tottenham and Crystal Palace are close to reaching a final transfer agreement on that fee. Eze has already given his green light to join Tottenham, meanwhile rivals Arsenal seem to be more focused on a left winger with Ethan Nwaneri likely splitting time at the 10 position with Martin Odegaard.
Barring an unforeseen setback, it appears Eze will soon be a Tottenham player, bringing a feel-good, established Premier League talent to the 10 position. And Eze has the athleticism, dribbling skills, ball progression, and all-around work rate to keep that starting job once James Maddison returns or even rotate minutes as a No. 8.
The best part for Tottenham is that the club will pay slightly less than they would have a couple of months ago. Eze had a 68 million pound release clause that expired on Friday, and there were many fans willing to activate it earlier in the transfer window. With Arsenal cooling their interest, Tottenham have less competition, and Palace appear to be willing to take a deal close to, but less than, the original clause.
