Tottenham are after a boom-or-bust Guglielmo Vicario transfer replacement

Worth it?

Although Guglielmo Vicario produced an improved performance against Atletico Madrid in Tottenham Hotspur's 3-2 win in the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16, it is unlikely to change the club's mind regarding finding his replacement in the summer transfer window.

VIcario has major interest from clubs like Inter Milan in Serie A after previously being a top class goalkeeper in the Italian top flight at lowly Empoli. At times, he has been that good for Tottenham, but because he is so limited on the ball and prone to mistakes with a rapidly falling save percentage, the writing is pretty much on the wall for a new goalkeeper at the N17 this summer.

As Spurs contemplate a new, young star in goal to replace Vicario and an overall overhaul of the position with Antonin Kinsky likely set to leave on loan, too, an intriguing name has surfaced a year after his own failed transfer.

Tottenham are watching PSG GK Lucas Chevalier

According to a report from French newspaper L'Equipe's Damien Degorre, Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs interested in plucking PSG starting goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier, whose starting status has been called into question.

Chevalier joined the Parisians in summer 2025 with a lot of question marks. Even though he was tremendous for Lille the previous season and actually even better than Gianluigi Donnarumma in the league, Chevalier was filling massive shoes for one of the biggest - both physically and in name recognition - goalkeepers in the world after Donnarumma's insane Champions League knockout season that fueled the Ligue 1 giants' title triumph.

Well, as if he was cursed by the media skepticism and pressure, Chevalier has floundered in Paris. He has a save percentage of 72.1, which is actually pretty good. But it is also the worst of his young career, and he has not been helped by high profile mistakes that have been scrutinized.

But the thing is, even in Chevalier's worst ever season, his save percentage is still almost 10 percentage points better than Vicario's. His mistakes are too much for PSG to handle and he is a downgrade on Donnarumma, but he would actually be an upgrade on Vicario, who has made many more times over the number of mistakes of Chevalier.

Plus, at just 24 years of age, Chevalier has room to grow. The Frenchman should not be at the top of the list and should actually be behind someone like Donnarumma's current Manchester City backup James Trafford, but at the right price, he is worth Spurs considering.
