Tottenham Hotspur are hoping they can facilitate the sale of veteran goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario this summer transfer window, as the Italian international had a horrendous 2025/26 season. His play fell off a cliff, and while playing through a hernia certainly did not help matters, given that most of his errors were of the mental variety, the injury itself could not explain how woeful he was.

With leadership concerns, poor command of his box, basic handling errors, and some of the worst ball playing in the Premier League, Vicario was horrible in many respects and also struggled as a shot stopper statistically with the worst save percentage of any Premier League starter.

Several Italian clubs were watching Vicario's transfer status, and Serie A champions Inter Milan were the most interested with a deal seemingly wrapped up. But it looks like the trail has gone cold, as perhaps the Nerazzurri got cold feet after watching how much better the young Antonin Kinsky played than Vicario in leading Spurs to Premier League safety after the former Empoli man's hernia surgery.

Guglielmo Vicario destination is coming off the board

Well, Tottenham still had high hopes for a big sale of the veteran shot stopper, as Inter Milan's arch rivals Juventus were also significantly interest, heating up their desire to sign Guglielmo Vicario from Spurs at the same time that Inter cooled theirs.

However, Juventus also became seriously interested in Aston Villa's experienced World Cup hero Emiliano "Dibu" Martinez as the replacement for the disappointing Michele Di Greogrio, and it appears the Bianconeri have made their final decision.

According to a report from Matteo Moretto of MARCA, Juventus is now "very close" to reaching a "total agreement" to sign Dibu Martinez from Spurs Premier League rivals Aston Villa instead of making the deal for Vicario in goal. Moretto says a transfer for Martinez "is truly one step away" between Juve and Villa now, as Martinez and the Bianconeri are about to agree on a contract and then Juve just have to agree to terms with the Lions on the final fee.

Martinez is not the keeper he was a few years ago and was honestly always overrated because of how he caught lightening in a bottle for Argentina at the World Cup, but he is still legitimately a top keeper whereas Vicario looks quite mediocre. Martinez over Vicario is a no brainer for Juventus, and now it is back to the drawing board again for Spurs to offload Vic if they want a better keeper to pair with Antonin Kinsky.
