The Richarlison transfer saga has been a secondary annoyance to Tottenham Hotspur fans, slightly married with the No. 1 enigma surrounding Spurs which is their dual inability to score and thus their inability to get a win in the Premier League despite noticeable improvements elsewhere under Roberto De Zerbi.
Richarlison was ostensibly going to head back to Everton, his real beloved club, at the transfer deadline, but he rejected the move, which surely hurt Spurs ability to sign Iliman Ndiaye (though the winger wanted a Manchester City transfer anyway). After Spurs rejected a move to Trabzonspor, which was foolish, Richarlison himself kiboshed a deal back to the Brazilian top flight to Vasco da Gama. And now, nobody is interested in Richy, and all the transfer windows are set to be closed.
Tottenham Hotspur are stuck with a player whom De Zerbi says does not want to be there since 45 days, and, regardless, De Zerbi has cast Richy out of the side quite literally. Even though Tottenham can't buy a goal and Richarlison was their leading Premier League scorer last season, the Italian manager did not even register Carlo Ancelotti's favorite for the league squad this season.
Richarlison can't be blamed for not taking less
Spurs fans are not happy at all with Richarlison for not going, but club legend Toby Alderweireld, who has been more present in interviews over the last few months, gave the insight that the Lilywhite faithful have to remember about the situation.
The former Tottenham star center back said, via Arabic Spurs, "Sometimes as fans we look at it and say: you're an opportunist, you don't care about playing football, all you care about is money. But if we were in his position, and we were getting a really good salary, then the company we work for told us: you can move to that company, but they'll pay you less than what you're getting now... we'd ask ourselves: what's the benefit for me? I don't think we always look at these things from that angle. We look at them through the eyes of Tottenham fans."
Tottenham fans can tell that a lot of this is about the money ,as Richarlison was OK with Trabzonspor - but again, Spurs were stupidly not - because of the wage hike. But he did not even want Everton because he would be paid less, while he only wanted a loan to Vasco da Gama, which would have been impossible, since a permanent transfer would have meant he would no longer be paid the salary he is currently making with Tottenham.
There is nothing wrong, from that stand point, with Richy wanting to be paid what he has been owed by Spurs. That is fair. But Spurs fans want to see some honesty from both the player and even the team that this isn't about staying or leaving, necessarily, it's all about money.
