Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder and manager Tim Sherwood often opines about the Lilywhites, but Spurs fans often find themselves disagreeing with his insight. And his thoughts on the striker situation at N17 are not going to change that trend.
Spurs supporters are nervous about the front line going into the 2026/27 Premier League season. After finishing 17th in the Premier League table these last two seasons, including nearly getting relegated in 2025/26, Spurs know they need much better attacking talent. The signings of Xavi Simons and Mohammed Kudus in 2025 look excellent, but Spurs are having major issues at striker and scoring goals in general.
So far, Spurs have been concretely linked to Cody Gakpo and Savinho by Fabrizio Romano, with the Manchester City winger being their main transfer target in the attack. But Savinho is not a true goal scoring player, and, frustratingly, Eli Junior Kroupi is the only striker to even be mentioned in transfer rumors to Spurs.
Spurs strikers are not good enough
Sherwood recently spoke about the striker situation at Tottenham and seemed to imply that Dominic Solanke and RIcharlison are going to get another chance to be the duo for Tottenham next season. He did not sound too certain about Solanke and brought up the likelihood of Richy being transferred, but he also praised the former Everton striker for the goals he scored and his past success and said that Roberto De Zerbi may still be backing Solanke.
The former Spurs coach said, via Chris Cowlin, “Do they need a striker? Well, perhaps he might kick-start Dominic Solanke, you just don’t know. You’ve got Richarlison as well. Whatever people think about Richarlison, he scored 11 goals in a really poor Tottenham team and helped them stay in the Premier League. I’m not saying he’s the answer, but I was crying out for him to play because I’ve seen him do it in that environment for Everton before and keep them in the league. I think he was a player who really stood up. I do think he might be moved on now, though. If there’s another striker out there, I will trust De Zerbi to go out there and find him, and he might be someone from left field. He’s shown that he likes the Danny Welbeck’s – a big nine, someone that holds the ball up. João Pedro was at Brighton; it will be someone with credentials like that. Solanke might be the answer, though you don’t know…”
Tottenham fans will not be happy at all if Roberto De Zerbi rolls in with Dominic Solanke as the top option and Spurs stick around with Richarlison as the only other alternative. These two players are not terrible, but they are not starting caliber strikers or potential 20 goal players for a team that wants to finish in the top five of the Premier League.
