Tottenham Hotspur need to focus on signing playmakers in order to have enough game-changers up front to survive in the heated top-five Premier League race. Spurs have lost James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski to injuries, and after Eberechi Eze was added to Morgan Gibbs-White on the list of high-profile No. 10 transfer collapses, Spurs really have no margin for error at this point.
They are also still behind the curve on signing Manchester City star Savinho, and if Spurs go 0-for-2 on Eze and Savinho, they may be headed into a full season with Mohammed Kudus as the only real new game-changing talent added to an offense that, oh by the way, just lost club legend Son Heung-min to MLS.
Tottenham could have one player's return to healthy qualify as the cliche "like a new signing", and Richarlison's incredible brace in the 2-0 win over Burnley last weekend was a reminder of the bags of quailty the 28-year-old can bring. And Thomas Frank seems to value him a lot more than the previous managers did, which will be great for the Brazilian star's confidence.
Yet despite how much Frank likes Richarlison, even though he isn't willing to sell the former Everton man, he is still apparently willing to take a look at other striker options with less talent who could end up competing with Richy.
According to a report from The Guardian's David Hytner, Thomas Frank is still open to the idea of Yoane Wissa joining Tottenham from his old club Brentford this summer after Wissa bagged 19 goals in his 2024/25 breakout Premier League season with the Bees.
Wissa, interestingly enough, has been on a boycott in an effort to force his way out of Brentford that's honestly been evne more jarring than Alexander Isak's from Newcastle. And the best part is that Wissa joining Newcastle is actually one of the contingencies for Isak even getting a chance at leaving the Magpies for his dream move to Premier League champions Liverpool.
With the way Wissa is acting, I don't see how Tottenham would be interested in him, and 40 million pounds for a striker with no resale value seems to be a bad deal when Spurs already have two more talented players in Richarlison and Dominic Solanke.
Frank hasn't been able to bring any of his Brentford standouts with him from his old club to Spurs. The two that would have made sense, Christian Norgaard and Bryan Mbeumo, frustratingly ended up signing elsewhere in the Premier League because Spurs didn't show more than cursory interest in them.
I'm sure Frank wouldn't say no to working with Wissa again, and he is a decent striker who can bring goals. But Spurs need to spend at other positions more, given they've made no headway on greater areas of need.
