Three days after Thomas Frank was confirmed as Ange Postecoglou's successor, Tottenham agreed to sign Mathys Tel permanently.
The Frenchman's six-month loan had returned relatively little, with the club buying potential. In Frank, it seemed as if Tel had the ideal coach for his career to take off in north London, given what the Dane was able to squeeze out of his versatile forwards at Brentford.
However, Frank's treatment of Tel has been a source of frustration for supporters, with the former Bayern Munich starlet perceived to be on the receiving end of some poor management from the unpopular Tottenham boss.
Mathys Tel rightfully unhappy with latest Thomas Frank decision

Things are bleak in N17 right now. We have very little to cling to. Tel, who's started four games on the bounce, has, at the very least, shown a bit of character. 'Frankball' is impossible to get behind as an entity, but there are bits within it that have provided a semblance of hope. Tel, in recent weeks, has supplied some excitement.
However, he's been treated ever so poorly by this manager.
After starting and scoring in the 2-1 win at Leeds United in October, Tel was consigned to the bench until 4 January. Even after he helped turn the tide off the bench against Manchester United in November, Frank refused to fully place any faith in the strong-willed forward, whom he initially left out of his Champions League squad.
Dominic Solanke's injury eventually opened up a slot for Tel to come in, and he played 32 minutes against Slavia Prague, but the continental door has once again been shut in front of the Frenchman. News broke on Monday, after it became clear that Frank would be in charge for the upcoming fixture with Borussia Dortmund, that Solanke will return to the Champions League squad in place of Tel.
There were suggestions that UEFA rules forced Frank's hand; that, because Solanke was fit again, he had to come back into the squad. However, the Tottenham boss has confirmed (via BBC Sport) that the decision to omit Tel again was his call: "I made the decision. It was not a nice decision to have to make but unfortunately that is football.
"The way the rules are, the only option was Dom or Mathys, and I chose Dom because - I think Mathys has done very well the last couple of games, and if I could pick from all the players, he would start tomorrow, but I can only choose between the two of them. It's a tough one for Mathys, but he is not in the squad tomorrow," he added.

Frank makes space for Dominic Solanke and the only way was to remove Tel.

Frank's inability to read a room really is staggering. The manager was jeered for his decision to withdraw Tel at the weekend, so it's no surprise that this move hasn't gone down well. Supporters are exasperated, and Tel's camp, according to Fabrizio Romano, are fuming.
The forward's been linked with a loan move to Paris FC this month, and he wants out. Can you blame him? The club's a state. At least Frank will be gone soon, right... right?
