Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has pretty mcuh officially become the most disliked person around the club after yet another humbling loss. Spurs gifted Bournemouth their first win in 11 games on Wednesday night in the Premier League, and the 3-2 score only flattered Spurs, born out of individual brilliance by both Mathys Tel and Joao Palhinha.
But the real storyline from the game was not anything that happened on the pitch. Firstly, the continued boos from the fans, which certain players like Micky van de Ven took umbrage to and began to squabble with them. Secondly, though, it was manager Frank who stole the show - and not in a good way.
Frank certainly made headlines for losing another winnable game and getting embarrassed further by Antoine Semenyo, who won the game in the dying minutes after already rejecting Spurs transfer overtures weeks ago.
Thomas Frank keeps reaching new lows
What really did Frank in, though, was traipsing around and drinking out of an Arsenal FC cup, and you really could not have written a better script for Frank to display his full incompetence to the entire footballing world than by drinking out of a cup of Tottenham's biggest rivals - the same rivals that embarrassed him 4-1 in a cowardly first ever North London Derby for the ex Brentford manager.
Frank then tried to explain what happened with the cup at the press conference after the game, which Football.London's Alasdair Gold so wonderfully transcribed again, "I definitely did not notice it. It would be completely stupid of me to take it if I knew. It's a little bit sad in football that I need to be asked about it. I would never do something that stupid."
To be honest, most Tottenham Hotspur fans still think it would "completely stupid" for Thomas Frank to have drank out of an Arsenal cup, regardless of whether or not he knew or not. Someone clearly must have set him up by giving him that Arsenal cup. It was either pure unbridled incompetence on their part or something more sinister - a deliberate ploy to embarrass Frank on a national level by setting him up to drink out of an Arsenal cup.
Frank is already on the out with many Tottenham fans, but you also could not imagine a scene like this happening to literally any other Spurs manager. Because, well, simply put, it never did. Could you imagine Ange Postecoglou pulling a stunt like this? And then having his players act like neanderthals after the game with all Frank doing is supporting his players turning on the fans and publicly telling reporters that his team played well in another humiliating loss?
Postecoglou had major issues and got what his play on the pitch in the Premier League merited. But, man, Frank looks even worse, and every time he pulls a stunt like this or sinks to a new low like drinking out of Arsenal cup, he makes Postecoglou look like a sheer genius by comparison.
