When Spurs rocked up at Old Trafford at the end of September, there was some optimism that a result could be achieved, given the decaying state of the hosts under Erik ten Hag.

Just three minutes into the game, that positvity was already beginning to become justified.

Having picked up the ball inside his own half, Micky van de Ven went on a surging run down the outside, before knocking the ball past compatriot Matthijs de Ligt, and having the coolness to square the ball to Johnson, who could not miss from a matter of yards out. Oh how they have missed the Dutch defender.

Three minutes before half time, Bruno Fernandes was sent off for a challenge upon a VAR review. However, make no mistake – Spurs were already well on top before that, and could have been further ahead had Werner taken a couple of big chances he had got on the end of.

Ange’s side started the second half like they started the first half – with a goal. After superb link up with Johnson down the right hand side, Kulusevski acrobatically put the ball past the hapless Andre Onana to double the lead.

Then, just as they had let their 10 man hosts somewhat back into the game, Spurs had three.

An inswinging cross from Lucas Bergvall was flicked on by Sarr, and Solanke was johnny on the spot to slide the ball into the back of the net, and make absolute sure of all three points.
