Tottenham Hotspur have secured their defense and midfield for the 2026/27 Premier League season, as manager Roberto De Zerbi was able to wrap up a third dream signing with the additions of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali for a combined 185 million pounds to emphatically answer their pressing need in the middle of the park.
But those who watched an anemic Spurs attack sputter with Richarlison being the only one to register in the double digits will assert that the most desperate need for Spurs is in the attack. It is no coincidence that Tottenham are way behind the other Premier League Big Six clubs at left wing and striker when they have done nothing to come close to replacing legends Harry Kane and Son Heung-min.
That will change, presumably, this summer, because if Roberto De Zerbi was able to get Spurs to spend on Fernandes, Tonali, and Jan Paul van Hecke at all costs, then there is little doubt he will stop at nothing to make vast upgrades to the attack.
Tottenham are going to battle Manchester United again
Crysencio Summerville is the latest West Ham United standout on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur, and the left winger was such a standout at the World Cup in those brief games for the Netherlands that Manchester United and even back to back Champions League winners PSG are going hard after him, too.
According to a report from Vikash Varange, Lyall Thomas, and Mark McAdam of Sky Sports, Summerville is Manchester United's No. 1 transfer target on the wings, and the Red Devils have already begun initial talks for the Dutch international. But Tottenham are also still interested in signing Summerville, with United now preparing to move more quickly for Summerville after already losing out on Mateus Fernandes to Spurs.
Tottenham have to realize that they have now made a massive statement with the Fernandes and Sandro Tonali signings, and the other elite Premier League clubs are going to put on their "A" game in order to make sure Tottenham does not take any more of their elite targets this summer - as Crysencio Summerville is now THE guy Manchester United want to upgrade their left wing.
Now, if Spurs really, really want Summerville, De Zerbi has shown that he and Spurs are threats to land anyone they desire, and this is such a huge change of pace for Spurs. It's a great problem to have, in a way. But now that Spurs have made their statements, they have to follow up on it at the forward positions, because the competition for these marquee players is 10 times stiffer.
