Since Day 1, Tottenham Hotspur forward Mathys Tel has been fully COYS. He arrived from Bayern Munich on loan and helped the team win the Europa League in his first half season at the club, showing a lot of intensity and a special connection with the crowd, willing to do whatever was asked of him to help Spurs win. So when Daniel Levy and the club had the chance to sign the potential future French superstar at a discounted rate from one of the three biggest clubs in world football, they naturally jumped at it.

Now, Tel has been through a tumultuous season in 2025/26. Although he has been one of the team's best attacking players, he was routinely snubbed by Thomas Frank, and it got to a point where he was seriously contemplating a loan move in the winter transfer window to get more regular playing time before Spurs were able to talk him out of it.

Tottenham are scratching and clawing through a relegation fight, and with so many injuries and underperformers, Mathys Tel has been a breath of fresh air. He is creating chances, taking defenders on, willing to shoot, and playing at a higher level than all of his attacking teammates, even when Spurs do lose some of these relegation battle games.

Mathys Tel shows Spurs respect

Once again, though, the transfer rumor mill is asking questions about Tel, like they are asking about all of his teammates, because of how poorly Tottenham are doing. But it sounds like Tel is not thinking one bit about slacking in this relegation fight or letting down his teammates.

Transfer insider Ben Jacobs reports that even though some rumors have linked him with a return to the Bundesliga, where clubs as big as Borussia Dortmund would love to have him, the former Bayern man is not considering a move to leave Tottenham this summer. He is "solely intent" on helping Spurs avoid relegation right now and will only assess his future after the 2025/26 season ends. Furthermore, Jacobs says he "feels a sense of responsibility" to put his 100 percent focus on the relegation battle, regardless of whether or not he stays or goes.

Now, Jacobs is not necessarily ruling out Tel leaving this summer, and no Spurs fan could blame a big talent like Tel for wanting out after how he has been treated this season. However, Tel does not seem to be interested in leaving at this point, and the bigger story is that he won't even contemplate any of that until after the season. And that is all Spurs supporters can ask for, which, apparently, is too much to ask from the likes of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero. Let alone Randal Kolo Muani, who is practically twerking for Juventus at this point.
