Tottenham Hotspur will face Everton on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League, as they look to make a statement at home by getting their first win of what has been a nightmare start to the 2026/27 season under Roberto De Zerbi. While Everton are a solid opponent, Spurs defeated them convincingly on Matchday 38 of the 2025/26 season to confirm their survival in the Premier League, so fans will quietly feel that a match with the Toffees is a good omen for them.
Spurs showed growth last weekend against Nottingham Forest by at least getting a draw, even though they could not turn all the possession into goals. Omar Marmoush and Mathys Tel were the biggest disappointments of the match, but Spurs really want to see more from Savio, whose minutes were, wisely of course, capped by the medical staff to 60 minutes.
Savio cost Tottenham 85 million pounds this summer transfer window, and he is entrusted to be the new face of the attack for potentially the next decade alongside Xavi Simons when the latter returns from the ACL tear next year.

This weekend, Savio gets a chance to make a statement to the old player who was seen as the future of Tottenham Hotspur on the wings in Brennan Johnson. Now at Everton after a swap between Crystal Palace involving Premier League veteran Dwight McNeil, Johnson is coming off another European trophy victory in his career but was honestly very poor since his record winter sale to the Eagles.
Johnson will forever be a Spurs icon for his winning goal in the Europa League Final in 2025 against Manchester United, but he had to be sold because while he could bring goals on the wings, he brought literally nothing else at the position.
Savio has a chance to have his first breakout Premier League game in his new digs and make a statement to Brennan Johnson and the club that he is everything that the Welsh international was not able to be on the wings. He is quicker, more explosive, a more skilled dribbler, and a much better creator.
But also, what Roberto De Zerbi wants to start seeing from Savio, who only scored twice during his time at Manchester City, is more goals in the Premier League. Savio nearly scored 10 in the 2023/24 La Liga season, but Johnson was a pretty prolific scorer off the wings in England. And a goal against Everton would be the ultimate statement from Savio that he has come to play.
