Tottenham Hotspur have not scored a single goal in the Premier League this season, losing 3-0 to Brentford and now 2-0 to Newcastle United to start the 2026/27 campaign. Although they managed to get five past Charlton Athletic, Spurs have been unable to match up to the actual Premier League competition, which is deeply concerning.
But while Spurs knew coming into the season that their attack was going to be a major weakness and the usual suspects like Mathys Tel and Richarlison continue to disappoint, Roberto De Zerbi and Co. were able to secure two massive signings from Manchester City in Savio and Omar Marmoush - players Spurs had been deeply interested in signing for months. And Cody Gakpo remains on the transfer radar, though he is seen as unlikely at this stage.
While Tottenham have a lot to be concerned about as an attack, including a recent injury to No. 10 James Maddison, the new signings Marmoush and Savio have been saving graces. After Savio contributed to two goals off the bench for Tottenham against Charlton in the League Cup, Marmoush led the way in an otherwise atrocious match for the Spurs attack witih a team high three key passes and three dribbles completed as the Lilywhites only true attacking threat.

Thus, Savio and Marmoush are already showing early signs of delivering on their nearly combined 150 million pound transfer fee from Premier League title contenders Manchester City. Marmoush and Savio made a bold move to go from one of the best teams in the Premier League last season to one of the worst, but they did so in order to have that responsibility of starting every week and maybe most importantly, lifting up a team and an attack into being something more.
Savio and Marmoush want to be stars, but they need the supporting cast to step up, too, and that has to be the case going forward. But also, by shining to this degree while the others are terrible, Marmoush and Savio are going to force everyone else to improve, because players like Mathys Tel and Richarlison are being highlighted even more as part of the problem in juxtaposition to what Savio and Marmoush bring to the table talent wise.
In that way, the new duo from Manchester City do not even have to utter a single word to get the rest of their teammates to raise their level, and that's something Tottenham fans are hoping to see.
