Savinho accidentally spotlights Pep Guardiola's white lie amid Tottenham rumors

Oops. You weren't supposed to do that, Savinho.

A few weeks ago, no Tottenham fan would have predicted that a Man City player would be signed this summer. Fast forward to today, and now Tottenham fans are questioning why one of Pep Guardiola's most promising players, Savinho, hasn't been signed yet.

The Brazil international made 29 Premier League appearances last season and returned an impressive nine goal involvements (one goal, nine assists). Given how underwhelming last season was for Man City, no fan turned their nose up at Savinho's debut season return.

And Savinho's admirers didn't end at Man City. Indeed, Tottenham clearly kept a close eye on Savinho, and they are now making moves to try and sign the Brazil international.

Pep Guardiola's white lie on Savinho's injury points to Tottenham move

Recently, Man City claimed that Savinho would not feature in Man City's opening Premier League fixture due to injury. Then, Pep Guardiola admitted that he wanted Savinho to stay and never veered away from Man City's injury story.

In his own words, Pep said: “Savinho is injured from Palermo. Few weeks he will be out.”

We've seen that white lie made many times before. There's no real way to prove 'knocks,' but given Savinho's situation, we can read between the lines and assume he isn't playing due to his imminent move to Tottenham (wishful thinking never hurt anyone, right?).

He then followed up by saying: "The only thing I'm concerned about today is that Savinho will be with us all season, and hopefully for many, many years."

Obviously, it's in Man City's best interest to keep ahold of Savinho. He's a brilliant talent, and one that can make a big impact this season. Pep Guardiola will want to call upon all of his available troops in the bid to return the Premier League home this season.

Anyway, if it wasn't blatant enough that Pep Guardiola was telling a little white lie about Savinho's injury, Savinho himself made it even more obvious. The contracted Man City player posted a photo of him in the gym, which might have accidentally called out Pep's cover-up.

And look, we're not claiming to be injury experts here. We're simply looking at this from a fan perspective, and reading between the lines. But it sure does seem suspicious that Savinho posted this photo while he should be recovering from his pre-season injury.

Either way, Savinho is keen to return from his quote-unquote knock fitter than before. This will benefit whichever club he ends up playing for this season, but Tottenham fans want it to in Lilywhite.

And, let's face it, Savinho wouldn't be put off by that likelihood. As a player who is keen to travel to the World Cup, with great competition due to his nationilty being Brazilian, Tottenham is a great opportunity to do that. Carlo Ancelotti will already have an eye on Hotspur Way due to Richarlison, after all.

As always, let's see how this story progresses. However, pretty much everyone agrees that Savinho's absence from City's first match is not due to an injury, no matter how much Pep plays that card.
