It has been around 18 months since the last time Tottenham Hotspur fans saw Dejan Kulusevski on the football pitch, and in recent months, there has been real optimism that Kulu can recovery from his devastating, career threatening knee injury fully and get back on the pitch relatively soon.

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi and Swedish national team manager Graham Potter have been exercising the utmost caution with Kulu, as they know the stakes here. Kulusevski's career could have been over, the nature of his knee injury was extraordinarily severe, and the risk of things getting worse is not at all worth it.

But at some point, Kulusevski will be ready. He has been training with the ball, running, shooting, praciticing with teammates, and now participating in scrimmages with the youth team. Tottenham fans can feel that after this September and October international break, Kulu's return is starting to reach a horizon point and now we are at a time when it is just about making the final tweaks and preparations for his return.

Dejan Kulusevski could return any week now

Speaking ahead of the Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester United matchup in the Premier League, Roberto De Zerbi gave another positive Dejan Kulusevski injury update and confirmed that Spurs plan on doing exactly what they did with James Maddison last season as he returned from his ACL tear. Kulusevski will be traveling with the team as he gets ready to actually play, and he will even be traveling shortly with them for the Manchester United game.

De Zerbi said, via Hotspur Lane, "Tomorrow, he comes with us. Also Porro. Deki is working very well. I think he is a good example for everyone. The way he reacted to the injury and the character he has shown is a reference for everyone. I don't know (how far away he is from a matchday squad). The medical staff are working really well with him. They have done special work. We have to analyse week-by-week."

Although Roberto De Zerbi is not sure how far away Kulusevski is from actually playing, the fact that he is now week to week means that, in a football sense, it could be any game now that Kulu is ready to return. People aren't week to week for more than a month or two, otherwise they would be month to month, so November or, at the latest December, seems like a realistic return point for Kulusevski. So in about a month, it sounds like we could see Kulu out there, based on what De Zerb is implying. And that is awesome news indeed.
