It is amazing to see how one terrible manager can make an entire team of players look way worse than they actually are, and Tottenham Hotspur supporters are still seething with rage at how Thomas Frank made them devalue half of their squad last season, with star players like Micky van de Ven and Pedro Porro looking incompetent and playing like they had lost their love for the club and the sport itself under the Danish manager.
But the rebound has been swift for the players, especially for Porro. Immediately after Frank and Igor Tudor left and were replaced by an actual competent coach with ambition in Roberto De Zerbi, Porro was back to playing like a world beater, and even though Tottenham had such a nightmare season, Manchester City and Real Madrid were already in with approaches to start the summer 2026 transfer market before Spurs, at the behest of De Zerbi, quickly signed him to a contract extension.
That move proved to be quite crucial in hindsight, as Porro went on to be the best right back on the planet at the 2026 World Cup, outshining even Achraf Hakimi en route to hoisting the World Cup trophy after locking down some of the best left wingers around.

Now, Roberto De Zerbi is waxing poetic to reporters about a player he has always believed in, via Lilywhite Rose, stating that that experienced Spanish international is the best right back in the world right now.
With all due respect to Achraf Hakimi and even Real Madrid's duo of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Denzel Dumfries, De Zerbi could not be more right. The pedestal is Pedro Porro's to claim after the World Cup campaign he had, and even back when he was a prospect for Sporting CP a handful of years ago, everyone, including Real Madrid and Manchester City at that time, knew that Porro had the potential to become the world's best.
Via his hard work, accurate crossing of late, and elite one on one defending, Porro is blanketing the right flank like the best in the world should, and after doing all that for Spain this summer, Tottenham Hotspur supporters are excited to see what he can do with a full season of Roberto De Zerbi guiding him and the team.
Porro is also a great case study in how a player can look terrible on a bad team and look amazing on a great team. As Tottenham close their summer 2026 transfer window, there is a lot of optimism Spurs will be a great team again in 2026/27.
