Tottenham Hotspur winger Mikey Moore has a big chance to prove himself to Roberto De Zerbi this offseason as Spurs play the preseason games, but fans are noticing other young players a lot more than they are the player loaned to Rangers last season.
If Moore stands out this summer, he could potentially work his way into being part of the puzzle, as Tottenham desperately need new solutions on the wings. Spurs have yet to actually sign anyone thus far, with Manchester City continuing to hold onto Savinho and nobody else really standing out as a clear target beyond whispers.
Tottenham fans are beginning to wonder if Moore is really ready yet to take that next step to the first team, and even De Zerbi seems to be highly noncommittal on the club's top winger prospect, implying that the England youth international would be better served on another loan.
Roberto De Zerbi is focused on bringing in new wingers
He recently said of Moore, via Hotspur Lane, “We have to see. We have to analyse the last part of the transfer market, because we try to bring wingers, and then we speak with him, with his agent, with the club, to find the best solution for everyone.”
That quote from Roberto De Zerbi makes it quite clear that Mikey Moore is not a Plan A for Tottenham Hotspur on the wings going into the 2026/27 Premier League season. Spurs and their coach do not see Moore as ready or remotely the finished product, and they ideally want to sign a couple of new wingers to help the team before feeling more secure in letting Moore formally go on loan.
Moore had some great moments for Rangers last season and was a real star for them, and even at Tottenham in the 2024/25 season, especially in the Europa League, the 18 year old showed some serious juice and that potential to one day be special at the Premier League level.
But he is still years away from that. Being 18 in the Premier League is insanely young, even for a winger, and Tottenham are going to have to continue to find the best solutions for his development this summer. As De Zerbi is quietly saying here, Moore is not yet remotely ready, and the only reason why he is in contention for the first team on the wings next season is the simple fact that Spurs are not good enough there without new signings.
