There is zero doubt that Tottenham Hotspur's worst fear is relegation from the Premier League, which could happen to them this Sunday if they are unable to get a point against Everton - and if, in failing to at least draw, West Ham United are able to get a win against a depleted Leeds United that has no motivation to win. Basically, Spurs control their own destiny and can expect little help from their competing London rivals in the relegation battle.

Tottenham have hope again thanks to Roberto De Zerbi, whom Vinai Venkatesham and Johan Lange honestly could have hired sooner in the season to spare them further Thomas Frank blushes. They chose him against the wishes of the fan base to wait for Mauricio Pochettino, and though De Zerbi seemed uninterested in the job at first, Spurs evidently paid enough money to him to get him to not only reconsider but also to commit to a Spurs project long term.

De Zerbi reportedly agreed to join Tottenham and stay regardless of the outcome of the 2025/26 Premier League relegation battle, and when confronted with that question again at a press conference before Tottenham's battle against Everton, De Zerbi affirmed that he is not going anywhere.

Roberto De Zerbi addressed his Tottenham future

The former Brighton manager said, via The Spurs Express, "Yes, I confirm everything. For me, it’s still an honour to be a coach for Tottenham, even if on Sunday we play for the relegation fight, it’s not a problem. I consider football something more than the table, than the level of the game."

If Tottenham Hotspur fans have a second worst fear after relegation from the Premier League to the EFL Championship, then it is them getting relegated and Roberto De Zerbi abandoning them to make them another victim of his quick departures, forcing Spurs to then look at a barren market place for another manager (who could very well be Thomas Frank 2.0).

De Zerbi affirming his commitment to Tottenham before the game is huge, and while Spurs fans know better from experience to always, always expect the worst with this seemingly cursed club, at least hearing solid confirmation from De Zerbi verbally is important. De Zerbi, thus far, has come across well to Spurs supporters, assuaging them of their worst fears when he first took the job. Now, he has to follow up on his words with actions, but Tottenham fans are hoping they will not have to find out either way and the club can survive Matchday 38.
