Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi is already living up to his reputation as a driven, ambitious man who does not mess around when it comes time to build a juggernaut. He has designs on turning Spurs back to a Champions League powerhouse, and he is already pushing the club to make major moves and build a core of top class players.

So far, De Zerbi has secured the signing of Brighton center back Jan Paul van Hecke and managed to help lock Pedro Porro down for the foreseeable future after major transfer interest from Champions League powerhouses Manchester City and Real Madrid. And he is pushing for Spurs to sign three big players in Man City winger Savinho, Newcastle United defensive midfielder Sandro Tonali, and West Ham United breakout star Mateus Fernandes.

There is one more order of business that De Zerbi wants to make sure Tottenham gets done, too. According to reporting from Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube channel, just like with Porro, De Zerbi views Tottenham defensive star Micky van de Ven as untouchable amidst reports that Liverpool and Barcelona are still trying to sign the Dutch international away from Tottenham.

Roberto De Zerbi is not about to lose top talent

Per Romano, De Zerbi thinks Van de Ven is absolutely both crucial and untouchable to Spurs, a huge part of the present and future of the Tottenham Hotspur project under the Italian manager. He wants to make it clear to Spurs that there will be no Van de Ven transfer exit this summer.

Tottenham already stand to lose Cristian Romero this summer, and it is highly unlikely Luka Vuskovic is a first team player either. Spurs will be counting on Van de Ven and newcomers Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi to form the main defensive trio in the center of the back four.

In order to secure Micky van de Ven, of course, Tottenham will have to do the same thing they did with Pedro Porro and lock the Dutch international down to a lucrative long term contract extension, which, well, was the club's intent all the way back in the first half of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

It's just that now, re-signing Van de Ven is a whole lot easier since he is much more motivated to stay because of Roberto De Zerbi - and also the signing of his Dutch national team friend Van Hecke cannot hurt at all either.
