Tottenham Hotspur are going to need to be major players in the summer 2026 transfer window if they want to stop finishing 17th in the Premier League while they watch as Arsenal win major silverware. After hiring Roberto De Zerbi against the odds and giving him a sweet deal in order to entice him to join the team, Spurs are going to have to make good on their agreement to hire him, especially after he held up his end of the bargain by immediately boosting the club and sparing their relegation blushes.
Spurs are going to have to listen to the moves De Zerbi wants the team to make to build a successful long term project in the image of his tactical and sporting ideals. Tottenham are already driving forward with serious interest in Savinho, the Manchester City winger whom they wanted to sign badly last year but were unable to.
According to a report from Spurs transfer insider Paul O Keefe, via Spurs Connect, the entire focus of Tottenham Hotspur as a club right now is squarely centered on Savinho, and Roberto De Zerbi is high on the Brazilian international, too. Per O Keefe, a transfer for the former Girona star has been formally approved by the Italian manager, too.
Roberto De Zerbi gives the green light
De Zerbi has to be giving the green light for all of Tottenham's hopeful transfers at this point. As part of his special deal to bring him to N17, RDZ has more say on personnel decisions than most Premier League coaches, and he is also a much bigger name than the unproven men in charge of the Spurs front office, who are clearly on the hot seat after such a miserable 2025/26 season.
So if De Zerbi wants Savinho, that is the final seal of approval needed to go all in for a player who seems like he could cost a good bit cheaper than he would have been last season with Manchester City more open to selling now that there is a new regime in charge. Plus, Savinho did not even start 10 Premier League games for Man City last season, so the Citizens have no real reason to hold onto a player they would sell anyway.
Since De Zerbi is fully on board with Savinho, Spurs fans will be interested to hear more about how RDZ would plan to utilize such an exciting one on one dribbler. RDZ loves guys who can create matchup chaos out wide and produce chances. Savinho is that guy.
