Tottenham Hotspur fans have been itching to see Dejan Kulusveski back out on the pitch, but it has been so long and such a prolonged recovery course that, at one point, Spurs fans were genuinely worried that we would never see Kulu on the football pitch again and that his mysterious knee injury was a career ending one.

While we have still yet to hear all the details about Kulu's injury, the nature of it, the exact return date or thereabouts, or anythign else that would shed light on this mystery that has been going on for well over a year, we finally have something of an injury update again this preseason from manager Roberto De Zerbi.

The former Brighton coach said of Kulu, via Hotspur Lane, “We have to see in the next couple of weeks. He is another important player. But after one season, one complete season, without games, we have to analyse better and better and don't take risks for sure. First of all, for him, and then for us.”

Spurs won't risk Kulu

Tottenham Hotspur fans finally saw video footage of Dejan Kulusevski moving around with the ball and taking shots, and that was huge, since it looked like he could barely move around a few months ago when there was video footage of him hanging out with his Swedish national teammates.

There are rumors that Kulusevski could be ready to return to Tottenham in the first half of the season, and whlie Spurs fans would love that and would love to see the Swedish star back out there as soon as is reasonably possible, it is that last part that means the most. Because the last thing Spurs need is for Kulu to be rushed back, to suffer a reaggravation, or for anything else to happen to the beloved Tottenham right winger.

Plus, there is no reason to rush Kulu back. Mohammed Kudus is coming off a less severe injury and was an amazing replacement out right for Tottenham, playing at an even higher level than Kulu with his ability to take defenders on as arguably the best dribbler in the Premier League (alongside Jeremy Doku).

So while Roberto De Zerbi did not say much, he said the two most important things that Tottenham fans will be happy to hear. He said that Dejan Kulusevski is important to Spurs and that the club won't take any risks. Plain and simple.
