Tottenham Hotspur have brought in Liverpool left back Andrew Robertson and Bournemouth ball playing central defender Marcos Senesi this summer transfer window as free agent additions, and manager Roberto De Zerbi is also strongly pushing for his protege from Brighton, Jan Paul van Hecke.
With Van Hecke dead set on joining forces with the Italian manager again, Tottenham are seen as the overwhelming favorites to sign the 25 year old center back, and it would be a huge upset if the Lilywhites did not end up with his signature.
And yet, the transfer rumor mill continues to link Tottenham with more and more center backs. According to Tuttosport's Paolo Pirisi, De Zerbi is apparently interested in Juventus star center back Gleison Bremer, who has been linked to Premier League clubs like Spurs and Manchester United for years.
Roberto De Zerbi is still looking at Serie A
Juventus reportedly want the same amount of money that Tottenham are prepared to pay to Brighton for Jan Paul van Hecke, which would be a cool 50 million pounds, but they could use goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario as a make weight to bring the Brazilian defender's final transfer fee down.
Bremer is said to be near the top of Roberto De Zerbi's transfer wish list at the center back position, and while De Zerbi surely knows him well from Serie A after his great years with Torino and now their rivals Juventus, he definitely knows the younger Van Hecke a lot better after working closely with him on the same team in the Premier League.
Between the two center backs, Bremer is the better player in a vacuum with his insane physical strength and man marking. But Van Hecke is a little bit younger, less prone to injury, more proven in the Premier League, and much better as a passer on the ball, which appears to be what De Zerbi values the most after green lighting the Marcos Senesi signing already.
It is hard to imagine Tottenham Hotspur signing both Gleiseon Bremer and Van Hecke in the same transfer window when Senesi is already on his way and Spurs already have to make a tough decision with Luka Vuskovic when he had an insane 2025/26 Bundesliga season in Hamburg.
Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has interest from big clubs in Serie A who want to see the former Empoli man back in the Italian top flight again, and while Inter Milan have cooled their interest, Juventus really want him to replace Michele Di Gregorio. And if possible, he could reduce Bremer's price to a more palatable 20 million pounds, making him an emergency option should anything fall through with Van Hecke.
