Overall, the Tottenham Hotspur players enjoyed a very fruitful night against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, cleaning house against the second best team in German football with a 2-0 victory that was, by far, their best outing over the past few months.
Spurs came into the game reeling after consecutive losses, including an embarrassing 2-1 defeat to rivals West Ham United over the weekend. That derby defeat to a side in the relegation battle led to Tottenham fans screaming for Thomas Frank's sacking, and Spurs seemed to only be giving Frank the Dortmund game to save his career.
Whether or not Frank's win over Dortmund is sufficient enough to keep him alive as Tottenham head coach remains to be seen, but another big name at the N17 probably killed his chances of remaining beyond 2026 with another putrid display.
Randal Kolo Muani destroyed his goodwill
Randal Kolo Muani looked like a good bet to take over as the starting striker at Tottenham Hotspur just a couple of months ago, and the loan acquisition from PSG actually looked like he was playing himself into a potential permanent move, showing real class in an individual display of brilliance against his parent club in the Champions League.
But over the past month, Kolo Muani's play has fallen dangerously off a cliff, to the point where his situation is now becoming untenable to Spurs. After dropping a straight up disaster class against West Ham, Kolo Muani continued his lethargy with a 21 minute cameo against Dortmund that was straight from the bottom drawer, even in a match in which his teammates in the attack were dominating.
Kolo Muani looked like half the player that starting striker Dominic Solanke did, and so long as Solanke is able to remain healthy, there really should be no path to playing time for the Frenchman going forward.
Tottenham owe Kolo Muani zero, since he will be gone without a trace back to PSG when this loan ends. And what is really the most frustrating thing about RKM right now is that it is clearly not a talent issue; it is an effort issue.
Kolo Muani looks like he is mailing it in and cashing a check. He is playing like he does not give a crap about Tottenham and has already made up his mind that he is done with this team, even before his loan ends. He is not even running for the ball. All he does is take bad shots, sit around the edge of the area, and lose possession. Kolo Muani no longer presses as he did when he first start at Tottenham. He just stands around, passes sideways, and looks genuinely disinterested.
Tottenham already knew he would be toast after watching him do nothing in a must win rivalry game against West Ham, but now that he has followed it up by also doing nothing off the bench against Dortmund even though he should have been motivated to score with Tottenham doing well, he has confirmed that he is finished as a Spur.
