Tottenham are preparing for their first taste of the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday night, as they take on Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain in Udine.
PSG’s imperious success over Inter in Munich arrived days after we enjoyed our special night in Bilbao. Brennan Johnson's scrappy finish just before half-time proved to be the difference, as we memorably ended our 17-year wait for a major trophy.
This competition was contested between the European Cup winners and holders of the Cup Winners' Cup when Spurs previously tasted continental glory in the form of the 1983/84 UEFA Cup. PSG, meanwhile, have only appeared in this fixture once, and were torn apart over two legs by Juventus in 1996.
Luis Enrique's side enter Wednesday's bout as the undisputed best team in the world, even if they were beaten 3-0 by Chelsea in the Club World Cup final last month. They haven't taken to the field since, so there may be a chance for Thomas Frank's side, who have played six times in pre-season since PSG's defeat in New Jersey, to take advantage of a potentially rusty unit.
Here's our preview of the 2025 UEFA Super Cup.

PSG team news
PSG are without two of their starters from the Champions League final victory over Inter, with Joao Neves suspended and Gianluigi Donnarumma poised to leave the club.
Neves was shown a red card late on in their Club World Cup final defeat to Chelsea last month, and has been banned for two matches in all competitions. Warren Zaire-Emery will step up to fill the void in midfield.
Donnarumma was ever so important to PSG conquering the continent, but has been involved in a contract dispute with the Parisian club all summer. Lucas Chevalier has been signed as his replacement, and the Italian is now likely to sign for a Premier League club.
Luis Enrique is otherwise expected to name a familiar-looking starting XI in Udine.
PSG predicted lineup vs Tottenham: Chevalier; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Vitinha, Zaire-Emery, Fabian; Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia
Tottenham team news
Dominic Solanke and Destiny Udogie have both travelled with the squad after recovering from injuries, and Frank seemed to suggest the former will be ready to start against the European champions. He also said Udogie was "close".
Yves Bissouma was left out of the squad for disciplinary reasons, the manager confirmed on Tuesday night, while Luka Vuskovic and Dane Scarlett also haven't travelled with loan moves imminent.
Mohammed Kudus and Joao Palhinha are expected to start on their competitive debuts for the club, but Spurs are without creative forces James Maddison and Dejan Kuluseveki.
Tottenham predicted lineup vs PSG: Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Spence; Bentancur, Palhinha; Kudus, Sarr, Odobert, Solanke
PSG vs Tottenham score prediction
I'm a dreamer, right, but not even the most optimistic fibres within me believe we're pulling off the upset.
Frank's squad is incomplete, and not yet ready to compete fiercely against a team of PSG's calibre. The French outfit have shown to have mercy on their opponents, so we shouldn't be subject to a humiliation in Udine, but I suspect Enrique's men will win with some comfort.
Frank's man-to-man press is not yet fine-tuned, and we're too reliant on Kudus to get up the pitch. Solanke's inclusion helps massively, though. Still, I'm not expecting a mini-miracle.
Prediction: PSG 3-1 Tottenham
