Tottenham's James Maddison left out of England squad

It was finally confirmed by Gareth Southgate that James Maddison would not be included in England's final 26-man squad flying out to Germany for this summer's European Championships.
The Spurs midfielder had been included in Southgate's provisional 33-man squad and made an impressive cameo appearance in England's 3-0 victory over Bosnia & Herzegovina at St James' Park on Monday night.
But it wasn't to be for Maddison, who left camp along with Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones on Thursday Morning after being told by Southgate that they wouldn't be boarding the plane this summer.
Maddison joins Spurs team-mate Pedro Porro in those not picked for this summer's European Championship.
Maddison has racked up seven caps for England since making his debut against Montenegro in November of 2019. He has often been seen as someone harshly overlooked by Southgate in the past but was starting to make more appearances over the past twelve months or so.

His form undoubtedly, though understandably, dipped after coming back from his mid-season injury, Maddison even admitted this himself in his social media posts speaking about his exclusion from the squad.
The positive to all this is that much like their counterpart Pedro Porro, Maddison now has a full summer of rest and can fully focus on the task at hand next season. It also gives him a chance to fully get over the aforementioned injury and be fully 100% going into next season. A fully fit and firing James Maddison makes Spurs a much better team, as we saw at the start of last season.
