Tottenham reportedly interested in €70 million Bundesliga defender

The 2023/24 season hasn't ended yet, but transfer rumors are already seeing the light. Tottenham are expected to be very busy during the summer transfer window, with rumors about potential signings growing by the day.

Sky Sports' Philipp Hinze reports that Spurs are interested in a standout defender from RB Leipzig, Mohamed Simakan. The French footballer has turned heads since his arrival in the Bundesliga, making himself a known name with the top-flight side.

Hinze reports that Leipzig gave Simakan a €70 million clause valid from this summer, meaning Tottenham, Newcastle or any other team interested in the talented wing-back will have to spend big money to secure this signing.

It's worth noting that this isn't the first time Spurs have been linked with Simakan. Back in 2021, the French player was reportedly a target for the North London side, according to OneFootball.

It's been a minute since that season, but Tottenham have reignited their interest in the 23-year-old right-back, although landing him in N17 will cost much more than four years ago.

The player appears to be open to the idea of playing in the Premier League, but it remains to be seen which club will trigger the release clause to acquire his services.

Tottenham has Pedro Porro to cover that position right now. Emerson Royal has also covered that flank during his tenure. Simakan would be a terrific addition to the Lilliwhites if he continues his development, but of course, he won't come for a cheap price.

He's played 27 Bundesliga matches this season, scoring one goal and dishing one assist in 1,885 minutes. This can be a notable signing for Tottenham, but it seems like the competition will be fierce for this young player.
