Tottenham Hotspur did not cover themselves in glory in the Premier League opener against newly-promoted side Leicester City. Ange Postecoglou's side let their heads drop after conceding an equaliser and never looked like asserting their authority on the game after that point.

However, if they were to find a winning goal, it would have come through the impressive subsitute cameo of Lucas Bergvall. The teenager who arrived in North London over the summer made his competitive debut for the club and he played well when coming on from the bench.

In fact, he was one of Tottenham's brightest sparks when carrying the ball forward with purpose. Unfortunately, though, his performance didn't inspire a Tottenham comeback, through no fault of his own.

Tottenham release long-awaited announcement involving Lucas Bergvall

Now, Tottenham have published a long-awaited announcement involving Lucas Bergvall. They boldly posted to their X (formerly Twitter) account, claiming that they were in talks with X to remove parody accounts pretending to be Lucas Bergvall. The official club account confirmed that neither Lucas Bergvall or Luka Vuskovic have an account on X, so any portraying them belong to somebody else.

Ever since X changed their verification landscape, it has become more difficult for people to spot which accounts are real and which are fake. This is due to verification being purchasable, leaving the legitimacy of what it means to be "verified" up in the air.

This has become a problem with Tottenham Hotspur noticing an increase in their players being portrayed falsely online, by accounts which are not run by them. This cannot be good for Lucas Bergvall who just wants to focus on developing at his new club, rather than becoming too concerned with how he is portrayed online.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham and X reach an agreement over the removal of these accounts.
