On Saturday afternoon, Spurs picked up a much-needed victory when they beat Brentford 3-1 at home. The performances of several players have been praised - but one player in particular seemed to play in a change of role, which in turn allowed another player to play in a more familiar role too.

The way Ange Postecoglu has used Destiny Udogie has had critics of late. Fans have suggested that Ange is wasting the 22-year-old by playing him so tucked in and not out wide overlapping to create headaches for the opposition defenders. When the defender played for Udinese, he was a high-flying wing-back, so this change of role has obviously taken some getting used to.

However, against Brentford, Ange seemed to use Udogie in a wider role, creating space for Son to come inside and be a threat in more central areas, rather than the touchline winger role he had been playing of late.

It worked perfectly, as Son was able to have his best performance of the season so far, having much more impact on the game than recently. The Spurs captain created seven chances, two big chances, and provided two assists in a complete display.

Udogie himself had a really good game in this different role, making three clearances, four interceptions, and six tackles, whilst getting forward enough to create a chance and have a shot for himself throughout the game. He still tucked inside to give his teammates an option when necessary, making it the perfect blend.

Whilst Ange is certainly a manager who likes to invert his full-backs, we have seen this happen on the other side too. Porro will drift wide whilst Johnson drifts inside and picks up central pockets. So hopefully, we can see it more often with Udogie and Son on the other side too as you can clearly see the tangible benefits that it has.
