Tottenham opens negotiations to sell £25 million midfielder
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's tenure at Tottenham Hotspur appears to be nearing its end, with recent reports suggesting a potential reunion with former manager Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce.
Hojbjerg was Mourinho's first signing during his stint as Spurs boss back in 2020. Since joining Tottenham, the midfielder has been a mainstay in the team, racking up 184 appearances and showcasing his reliability and tenacity in the heart of midfield.
However, the arrival of Ange Postecoglou has seen Hojbjerg fall down the pecking order, with Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma now preferred in central midfield roles.
This summer, Hojbjerg has been linked with moves to several clubs, including Napoli and Atletico Madrid, as per reports from Corriere dello Sport and AS respectively. Tottenham are reportedly seeking around £25 million for the 28-year-old.
The latest twist in Hojbjerg's transfer saga comes from Turkish outlet Sabah, which claims that Mourinho is keen to make Hojbjerg his first signing at Fenerbahce. Further reports from Turkey, such as Ajansspor and Karar, indicate that Fenerbahce are serious about the transfer.

Fenerbahce board member Acun Ilicali has reportedly traveled to London to initiate official talks with Tottenham, indicating that the Turkish club is mobilizing all resources to fulfill Mourinho's wish.
Given Hojbjerg's limited game time under Postecoglou—making only eight starts and 28 substitute appearances in the Premier League last season—it's clear he needs a fresh start. While a move to Fenerbahce under Mourinho could be appealing, especially with the promise of being a central figure in the team, I believe Hojbjerg still has the quality to perform at a higher level in more competitive leagues.
The physical and aggressive nature of Turkish football might suit Hojbjerg's playing style but offers from Napoli or Atletico Madrid could present him with a better opportunity to compete at the highest levels of European football. Additionally, the chance to play in the Champions League with these clubs might be more enticing.
