Tottenham on alert as Real Madrid, PSG, Man Utd eye 2025 move for key star

Tottenham could face a significant challenge in 2025 as some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, and Manchester United, are reportedly planning renewed attempts to sign Cristian Romero. The Argentine centre-back has become a crucial part of Tottenham’s defence, and the prospect of losing him is a major concern for the North London club.
Throughout the recent summer transfer window, Tottenham found themselves warding off interest from PSG, who were in desperate need of defensive reinforcements. The French club faced long-term injuries to key players like Presnel Kimpembe and Lucas Hernandez, and with Milan Skriniar leaving and Danilo Pereira falling out of favour under Luis Enrique, PSG turned their attention to Romero. Despite their strong interest, Tottenham made it clear that Romero was not for sale, with manager Ange Postecoglou emphasising the defender’s importance to his plans.
Romero’s importance to Tottenham cannot be overstated. Since joining Spurs, he has become a linchpin in their defence, providing both stability and leadership at the back. Under Postecoglou, Romero has flourished, and his performances have attracted the attention of some of Europe’s most powerful clubs.

However, reports from Argentina suggest that the battle to keep Romero is far from over. According to journalist Gaston Edul, while Tottenham successfully resisted offers for the defender this summer, PSG, along with Real Madrid and Manchester United, are expected to return with fresh bids in 2025, when Romero’s contract is closer to expiration.
For Tottenham, retaining Romero is not just about maintaining defensive strength; it is also a statement of the club’s ambitions. The club is looking to build a team capable of challenging for top honours, and losing a player of Romero’s calibre would be a significant setback.
It's a great opportunity for Tottenham to show that their ambitions are those of a top-level club and to offer Romero better terms than those the mentioned clubs might provide. We’ll see what happens.
